The Good Contractors List Story
After surviving a massive heart attack, founder John Hill felt called to something more. He committed to following Godβs voice β without knowing it would lead to launching a business that would transform the home services industry.
While working in direct mail, a contractor asked about splitting an ad β and it planted the seed. What if good contractors could share marketing costs and be listed together on one trusted platform?
βMansfield Service Connectionβ launched, followed by Burleson and Waxahachie. Contractors teamed up to advertise in local magazines, giving homeowners trusted names to call in
their community.
When the magazine changed its ad policy, the original model no longer worked. That challenge forced a rethink β and opened the door for a bigger, better idea.
While explaining the vision, the phrase βa good contractors listβ was born. On 11/11/11, the name became official, and contractors joined based on trust β with no website, just a legal pad and a big dream.
With enough founding contractors on board, the company was ready to advertise at scale. Each contractor was given the choice to opt out or take a leap of faith into something that hadnβt been done before.

After facing a major health crisis, John Hill received a life-saving heart transplant. The donor, Christian Wachal, became part of the company's story β and a lasting reminder that every heartbeat has purpose.

After experiencing firsthand how difficult it was for homeowners to find reliable contractors, he launched the company in 2011 with a mission to bring integrity and accountability to the industry.John now serves as Chief Ambassador, guiding the companyβs values and mentoring both contractors and team members. He also leads Find A House Church β his faith-based project focused on building spiritual communities.
