Spring Cleaning 101

Spring Cleaning 101

Spring is finally here and it’s time to rejoice! We can shed our winter coats, break out the bird feeders, and spend some much needed time in the sun.

But, before we go into vacation mode, we can’t forget one of the most important parts of spring for homeowners…

That’s right! It’s time for the big spring cleaning! This part of the nice weather celebration can definitely be a bit overwhelming, but it will be much easier to relax once the chores are done!

Here are five great tips we’ve put together to make your spring cleaning a little less daunting and a little more rewarding:

Get everyone involved

The Big Clean will take less time if the whole family pitches in! Don’t be afraid to get your spouse and the kids involved as you clean up the mess. After all, they helped make it!

With all of those extra hands, you’ll be done in no time at all. Making a game out of it can help keep the kids invested and rewarding the hardest worker with a special treat can do wonders for family morale as you tidy up.

Tackle those seasonal chores

Every home has special chores that need to get done every few months or once a year; get them out of the way now! Adding those extra chores in while you’re already in a cleaning flow will make them feel less taxing.

Get those air filters changed, clean the grill, and wash the exterior glass of all your windows. Once you start checking off those boxes, you won’t want to stop!

Organize and trash the clutter

Oh, boy. It’s crazy how much clutter accumulates over the course of a year, isn’t it? Don’t be afraid to tackle some of these refuse piles. Sure, you could move things around as you go; but a clutter-free home sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it?

Prioritizing the keepsakes, collecting the items to store in the attic, and getting your donation pile together will clear your home of all the unnecessary items that stacked up over the last year (or two!).

And when in doubt, don’t be afraid to break out the trash bags.

Clean room by room

A common pitfall many homeowners fall into is trying to do too much at one time, spread out over several rooms. This sends you scurrying around the house to finish tasks and can increase your stress levels.

Take a breather — go room by room to maximize your efficiency. Not only will it save you time and energy, you’ll be able to focus on all of those little details that make spring cleaning worthwhile.

Create a check-list

Once you start, it’s easy to lose sight of those projects you had in mind. Whether they’re large or small, chores can be easily overlooked if they aren’t written down or clearly posted.

Create a spring cleaning check-list of all the chores you know need to get done. Checking each one off as you go will feel rewarding and it ensures that no important tasks get neglected during the cleaning frenzy. A missed spot is a spot you have to get later.

You can do it

Don’t lose faith in the process. It’s a lot of hard work, but well worth the effort. We promise. Make your check-list, clean room by room, organize and trash the clutter, tackle those seasonal chores, and get everyone involved to make your spring clean fly by!

Keep these 5 spring cleaning tips in mind as your family tackles The Big Clean. And once it’s all done, you’ll be so happy you put in the effort.
